As per my understanding, social signals like likes, shares, and comments don’t directly influence Google rankings since Google has repeatedly stated that these are not direct ranking factors. However, I believe they play an indirect role in boosting SEO.
For instance, when content gets widely shared on social media, it increases its visibility, which can lead to more organic traffic. This, in turn, can result in higher engagement metrics, such as time on page and reduced bounce rates—factors that Google does consider.
According to my approach, social media is a powerful tool for amplifying content reach. If people find your content valuable and share it widely, it’s likely to attract natural backlinks, which do contribute directly to SEO.
In my view, while social signals themselves may not move the needle on rankings, their ripple effects—enhanced visibility, audience engagement, and link-building opportunities—make them an important aspect of an overall SEO strategy.
